As a Paris Proposal Photographer, I can tell you, this city is magical for proposing.
In this blog post, you’ll see how Jerzy planned his Paris proposal for Merissa right by the Eiffel Tower, along with practical guidance to help you plan your own. Jerzy and Merissa’s Eiffel Tower Paris Proposal
Paris Proposal Story: How It Was Planned and How It Happened
Jerzy and Merissa are my friends, so this proposal was extra special from the very beginning.
🗞️ The News: Turning a Paris Photoshoot Into a Proposal
Months before our European trip, we planned a couples session in Paris. During those early conversations, Jerzy told me he wanted to propose during the shoot. From that moment on, everything shifted from just photos to carefully planned magic.
💍 The Ring: A Detail That Made It All Real
About two weeks before the trip, he showed me the ring. It was one of those pieces that instantly makes sense… elegant, thoughtful, and completely Merissa. You could tell he had chosen it with intention.
🧠 The Plan: Choosing a Private Spot Near the Eiffel Tower
We planned a route that included iconic Paris locations, starting with a private spot right in front of the Eiffel Tower. The goal was simple: begin the day somewhere meaningful and calm where we could escape the crowd.
🎨 Personalizing the Proposal
Our first stop on the trip was Rome. While we were there, Merissa casually told me she had rented a Porsche for Jerzy for the Paris photoshoot because he absolutely loves them. Internally, I was losing it. She was doing something incredibly sweet for him, completely unaware of what he was about to do for her.
🗓️ It’s Paris Proposal Day! Timing, Movement, and Flexibility
On the proposal day, Merissa and Jerzy headed out to pick up the car. At the same time, I went with Jerzy’s best friend and videographer to grab a motorcycle so we could move easily through the city and stay flexible.
This part matters more than most people realize. The proposal location was perfect! Very few people, room to park the car, and the Eiffel Tower standing right in the background. It was also the very first thing we did that day.

🫶🏼 From Playful to Emotional: The Proposal Moment
Right before she saw the ring, the mood was playful. Jerzy, being Jerzy, was making silly faces and trying to keep things light. Then he got down on one knee. Everything changed!
Merissa started crying almost immediately. She kept asking, “Is this for real?” because for a brief moment, she thought it was part of the photoshoot. He had planned it so well that she never suspected a thing.

🔁 Turning the Paris Proposal Into an Engagement Session
After the proposal, we continued with an engagement session across other Paris spots, letting the city become part of their story. A relaxed, emotional session, full of movement.

Famous and Beautiful Places to Propose in Paris
If you’re planning a proposal in Paris, choosing the right location matters more than choosing the most famous one. As a Paris Proposal Photographer, I can tell you that some of the most iconic spots are also the busiest. Which can alter the moment’s feeling. Here are a few favorite famous locations that work beautifully for both meaningful moments and photos:
- Trocadéro – Elevated views of the Eiffel Tower, especially stunning early in the morning
- Pont Alexandre III – Ornate details, river views, and classic Paris elegance
- Montmartre streets – Romantic, artistic, and full of character
- Seine River riverbanks – Quiet corners with timeless charm
- Luxembourg Gardens – Soft light, greenery, and a peaceful atmosphere

⚖️ Balancing Scenery and Privacy
That said, famous locations often come with crowds, especially during peak hours. If privacy matters to you, some of the most meaningful proposals happen in places without big names or guidebook fame. Hidden streets, residential corners, and lesser-known viewpoints often offer more intimacy and flexibility.
This is where experience really helps. Knowing when a location is quiet, where light falls best, and which spots stay calm even in busy seasons makes a huge difference. I help with location research and planning, so your proposal feels intentional, comfortable, and truly yours, not rushed or surrounded by onlookers.
🔐 Privacy vs. Iconic Locations
One of the biggest decisions when planning a Paris proposal is choosing between an iconic location and a more private one. Both can be meaningful, but they create very different experiences.
👉🏼 Iconic locations offer instantly recognizable scenery and that classic Paris feel. The trade-off is that these spots are often busy, which can make the moment feel public and fast-paced. Some couples love this energy, while others find it distracting.
👉🏼 Private or lesser-known locations create space for emotion. With fewer people around, there’s room to slow down, react naturally, and be fully present. These places may not have famous names, but they often feel more personal and relaxed.
Many couples choose a mix. Proposing in a quieter spot, then moving to iconic Paris locations afterward for photos. This approach gives you the best of both worlds and keeps the focus on the moment itself.
Knowing which locations stay calm, when crowds peak, and where hidden views exist makes a real difference. That kind of planning helps the proposal feel personal, comfortable, and true to you.
👉🏼 My recommendation as a Paris Proposal Photographer: Choose the mix, propose in a quiet private spot, and move to the iconic spots.

Best Spots to Propose With the Eiffel Tower in the Background
If the Eiffel Tower is non-negotiable (and honestly, I get it), these spots tend to work best:
- Hidden streets near Trocadéro for privacy
- Lower Champ de Mars paths away from main walkways
- Pont de Bir-Hakeim (sidewalk level) for symmetry and clean lines
- Residential streets nearby that still offer a clear view
Timing is everything here. Early mornings give you softer light and fewer people, which makes a massive difference for both comfort and photos.

🌇 Early Morning vs. Sunset Proposals
Timing plays a huge role in how a Paris proposal feels. Early morning and sunset each create very different experiences, even at the same location.
👉🏼 Early morning proposals offer the most privacy. The city is quieter, popular spots are calmer, and you’re less likely to feel rushed or watched. Light is soft, shadows are gentle, and it’s easier to pause and truly take in the moment. This option works especially well for proposals near the Eiffel Tower or in normally busy areas.
👉🏼 Sunset proposals bring warmer tones and a more cinematic atmosphere. Paris feels alive, the golden light can be beautiful, and it can turn into a night session under the iconic Paris street lights. But this also means more people, more movement, and less control over space. For couples who don’t mind some attention and love the energy of the city, sunset can be a great fit.
There’s no right or wrong choice. The best timing depends on which you value more: privacy, mood, or energy. Planning around that makes the proposal feel intentional rather than rushed.

Creative Proposal Ideas in Paris
A Paris proposal doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. There are lots of creative ways to make it feel personal.
🥂 How to Personalize the Moment
- Renting a vintage motorcycle or scooter for moving between locations
- Incorporating a luxury or classic car for photos and transitions
- Planning a proposal as part of a couple’s session
- Ending the proposal with a picnic or a champagne moment
- Turning the day into a slow, story-driven experience instead of a single moment
These ideas help the proposal feel intentional rather than rushed, and they photograph beautifully.
